Should Christians have to pay tithes?

Can I change that question? Maybe we should ask, do christians like the nice seats they are sitting on at church, what about the air conditioning, or even being able to hear the choir, praise team, or even the preached word? Then of course there is the nice paved parking lot you get to park in...then of course when your family member is sick or in jail and you don't know who else to call but your pastor. Who pays for all this, you do with tithes and offering!!! "....that there may be meat in mine house...."

The Old Testament were "types and shadows" of things to come and exists for our learning and is considered as the Old Coveneant. But God came and made a new Covenant with his children. It was not a New Testament command to tithe under necessity, but it was to be based upon the goodness of God and The gratefulness that his children have towards his Majesty. This was example was given in the 7th Chapter of Hebrews, when it was chronicled that Abraham tithed to the members of Levitical priesthood... all the way to the 18th verse where it says regarding the whole affair: "For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, " so there is no "Commandment" to tithe, but we do based on God's goodness. This is an altogether different motivation. You see God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He doesnt need your stingy pennies if you give grudgingly or out of necessity, but, He loves a Cheerful Giver. Let him who hath ears hear...

I know alot of people debate on this. But overall if you are going to a church that is take care of business i dont think its a problem. For instance, my tithes go into the church and the church uses it to help our ministries like feeding the hungry helping members in need etc. I have seen alot of upgrades in my church from my given. Overall it keeps the ministry going strong. Now i can understand if you are tithing and dont see change in your church, it can become a problem.

Yes Malachi 3:8-12 explain everything about tithing and what will happen if you do and don't christian are not the only ones but the whole nation, all we need to do is give our ten% and the rest is yours, he will open up the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing. Prove him and watch what he will do for you, all you have to do is have faith and believe.

Wow looks like this has been a heated discussion!

Folks always get touchy when it affects their pockets. As for me I believe in tithing period. I believe tithing is both financial and physical: gross check, time and talent. I got the money down trying to get time n talent down thats at minimum 2.4 hours a day. Do I believe tithing will get me into heaven absolutely not! Im just following Gods word because I have reaped the benefits of tithing (someones tithe money kept the lights on in church so someone else was able to pray for me while I was running wild, somebody counted it not robbery to use their time to pray for me, somebody used their talents to design and print up tracts to shove under my door or hand out during the day) so far be it for me not to do so in return.

In the end my money isnt about me its not even my money!!! Im just a steward I give as unto God and let it go how it turns out from there is really none of my concern. God knows what I give and He will honor it.

Even the explanations for tithing are making me feel bondage again. Wow, it's not even money so why do people believe simple, the same reason I use too. We never studied it out for ourselves and allowed these false teachers to twist scriptures and place us back in bondage using the new covenant. Sad. Tithing is not for the new covenant believer, giving freely is.

We are called to support the ministries GOD has placed us in. HE also frees you to make the choice.
This is a tired argument that needs to be laid to rest.
JESUS kept all the Law. The law specifically said that temple taxes and tithes/offerings should be paid/given. If you are following JESUS, do as HE does/did.

I recommend people start asking these questions, who received the tithe, why did they receive the tithe, what was the tithe and How often if was giving. Search the scriptures for these answers and compare that to the New Covenant we have in Christ and to give freely not grudgingly which is the mandate for the Church, not the people who were under the Law. Christ Fulfilled the law brothers and sisters, compare the law against the Church age.
