Its been Made Afishial By KRSONE That HIPHOP Is Now a religion? He Is realeasing The Gospel of Hip Hop: The First Instrument, a 600-page book that examines the spirituality of the culture. He says himself " I can approach God directly myself and so I wrote a book called The Gospel of Hip Hop to free from all this nonsense garbage right now. respect the Christianity, the Islam, the Judaism but their time is up.” MY Question is? knowing this is, is still ok For CHRISTIAN ARTIST to push or repersent the word HIPHOP in thier music???

Here some other intresting facts about the TEMPLE OF HIPHOP aka the hiphop church! Heres a few people who go to that church!

Now to return to the Temple of Hiphop, it is hip-hop's preservation. We believe that not only is hip-hop divine, but the temple is divinely ordained, because we accept it as that. And in accepting that hip-hop is of divine origin, our temple becomes sanctioned by our God....

Who else is in this society?
Fat Joe, Kid Capri, Busta Rhymes, Redman, Lauryn Hill. When I say members, that means that they've literally filled out a form and registered. And our motto is "I am hip-hop."

What KRS is saying doesn't matter. He's a heretic.

but what about the other secular artist supporting him and this whole hiphop is a religion thing? it kinda makes me think why lil wayne said " I AM Hip HOP at the end of that song GOSSIP! KRSONE said thats there motto, i bet lil waynes apart too! I Mean we can IGNORE KRSONE but what about his book, the temple, his followers, and everybody else who supports his beleifs? I Mean what do u propose we do? jus rep the name hiphop untill they get to carried away and its actually practiced world wide as a religion!? (serious question not tryna debate)

This is a good post, good question, and serious things to consider as we go out to represent Christ with different music mediums. I do not think we need to fear the work of KRS like Viktory said-- but I get what you are saying.. would it help us to live blameless and just abandon the term HipHop, so that we do not cause any weak ones to stumble further into this worldly religion?

We are now free indeed, and have been given the authority to redeem all things for the glory of Christ (music genres included), but as Paul encourages "But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak." (1 Cor 8:9) Would it hurt us to just call it Gospel rap? ..just so someone else does not get lead into thinking that we are supporters of their foolishness. Anyway you look at it, we're going to have to borrow the world's terms at some point, so that they can be drawn to the well.. even Gospel "rap" may become controversial.

I would need to look into this further before even speaking on the topic, thanks for posting this.

rapping is what ya doing. Hiphop is the whole culture, and that is not Christ. We are NOT to CONFORM to the world. Rapping is the tool, hip hop is the image, we have the image of God, not hip hop.

No doubt..this movement is about using the "platform" for the purpose of ministry.

thats correct but according to the history hiphop africa bombada, zulu nation, i mean the originators of hiphop, the guys that started it! Ya they Were down with the whole hiphop is a Religion thing! Now some of the artist in hiphop may not feel that way now (but then again you never know, cuz there are sum Artist as u can see listed that still do) My thing is hip hop is not just a Genre, its origin is a religion! So ya you can redeem rap, you can redeem Dj-ing, but Hiphop itself being that in a way it was, and kinda still is, or is being called a religion how do you redeem a religion/movement or something that is anti christ! you can convert the individuals, but there actualy going as far to say that Hip Hop is a spirit! so how can you redeem an anti chist spirit! Ive heard from both sides, the world and from the church that hiphop is a spirirt!

Hip Hop was around (and called Hip Hop) before KRSONE came on the scene. So him in his pride and arrogance deciding to go call it a religion means nothing to God. Hip Hop remains a label for a type of music that God will use any way He wants, for His glory.

Thats like me rising up and saying that breakdance is a religion, and because I get really famous and become really good at it, masses start to join me and believe me, and then 30 years later, the church starts saying that no one can breakdance anymore, and if they do, they cannot call it breakdance because it is a spirit... crazy!!!

Jesus is Lord of all. All things were made by Him and for Him. BOW DOWN and WORSHIP Him with WHATEVER gift you bring to the table... throw it at His feet, no matter the label, name, or source.

We live in a secular world, so almost everything we eat, drink, wear, and listen to has a secular source. But we are the salt of the earth, put here to use them to proclaim His Holiness!!

To add to this, you said you can redeem rap and DJ-ing but notice what happens when you do that:

Five elements of Hip Hop are

1. DJing
2.MCing(rap)
3. Breakdancing
4. Graffiti
5. Beatboxing

Whenever I hear people saying we can use rap but not Hip Hop, it sounds foolish to me because rap is one of the five elements of the culture of Hip Hop, so we are creating false dichotomies. If you want to be real specific, forget KRS's religion, the Muslim religion was what many of the founders were into, so now is Hip Hop also another word for Five Percenter? There's also Buddhist as well, and plus Christians have been doing Hip Hop since near the start of it as well.

Point is that because of what Hip Hop is, it's able to present a worldview, but is not a worldview within itself. You can either present religious views, or selfish views(i.e. the bling rap and the prideful rap that even KRS would come against), but since Hip Hop is a container that can be filled, God has filled it with His presence, and His character i.e. His glory, so that the world will know its rightful use.

A lot of people say Hip Hop is a religion, and then use the decadence they see in Hip Hop today as evidence, but then don't realize that even KRS is against what's out today, so then what is Hip Hop, is it booty shaking or religion please take your pick? I clearly say its neither. Not to mention KRS is so confused on the things of religion and God, etc.

We as Christians are required to test all things, and just because you hear from the church and the world these things doesn't mean God is approving what is said. Hip Hop is a culture that contains people who have such relativistic religious views and compartmentalization and we need to know as Christians the reality of this( on the AllHipHop forum you can have someone cursing up a storm yet will still say don't talk about my Jesus, and I know He's God I trust Him, and then you can get someone who says Jesus is the white man's god, and he's Muslim)

bambatta and KRSONE can pound sand :) They didn't start hip-hop and all those involved don't cosign to this garbage. Just think. If someone did the same with Jazz, would then be evil to say jazz or be involved with it? Jazz can be considered to have some kind of specific culture etc etc. Don't fall for the hype.
