@Helen

LOL it's funny you mentioned Juanita Bynum, I could never get with her preaching, except for "No More Sheets."
But that's a good example.

@ AnDraea:
That may be true. However, when the individual is sent to 'cut', KING JESUS, the GREAT PHYSICIAN, comes to restore. It is the SPIRIT of GOD that restores the contrite heart.
Steve is not contrite, he just got caught.

Reply to This

@Helen I beg to differ,

The Spirit of God does the cutting by the Word of God, But it is OUR JOB, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to RESTORE. The scripture supports this:

Hebrews 4:12 NKJ
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Galatians 6:1 NKJ
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

I don't believe Steve is ready for restoration because it seems he has not accepted the whole truth. If he has already been ministered to properly, and there is no fruit of repentence, there's nothing left to do, but pray-especially that others won't be lead astray.
I have listened to the show partially because I know people who think like him (not because of him or anything he has said, but because this is what some churches are teaching-this is how people think these days). I need to know what I am fighting against if I am going to reach these people.

Now I can rebuke Steve Harvey and TBN til the cows come home, but the people around me are not looking at Steve Harvey's life, they are looking at mine.

And on that we have agreed. That is the end and the be all of the matter.

"Steve is a professing Christian not a professing sinner that is an oxymoron."-Richard

"Paul said that he was the chief of sinners and also an apostle. Is that an oxymoron as well?" - AnDraea

"Paul said he WAS not he still was." -Richard

1 Timothy 1:15 NKJ
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

Present Tense.

Reply to This

We understand why Paul was making that statement. He called himself a chief sinner because of what he had done, killing believers, not because he was still sinning. That's the context of that verse. Am I wrong?

Reply to This

That's the context in which I quoted it. BTW, how do you know that he was not still sinning?

Reply to This

Christ defeated sin on the cross, that is the point I made initially. The professing Church wants to call Christ a liar by continuing in sin. If Paul was still in sin then the Word is a lie, was he tempted, of course was he practicing, of course not. Now that has nothing to do with other issue he may have had but sinning was not the issue.

No one born of the Spirit keeps sinning.

"No one born of the Spirit keeps sinning."

I respect your point of view and I respectfully disagree with it. Using your logic I would have to conclude that at some point in every true Christian's walk with Christ, they will cease to sin completely- is this your position?

The verse you quoted above is speaking about a continual lifestyle of practicing sin, without any repentance or struggle or attempt to turn away. It does not mean that Christians stop sinning. That's why earlier in that same passage (I believe) it says "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves. If we confess our sin He is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.". I believe that Christ freed us from the power of sin when He died on the cross, but we have to appropriate that power in our own lives through the discipline of crucifying the flesh and resisting temptation (a lifelong endeavor). I believe we progressively get stronger in the Lord if we continue to walk with Him, and sin leaves as we take authority over temptation and the flesh. But I do not believe we ever stop sinning completely. Do you know any saints that claim to have completely stopped sinning? If so I would run the other way for they are truly deceived.

Even Paul didn't claim to be sinless. Read Phillipians 3:12-15. What do you think he meant here? It wasn't just about becoming a better person or Christian, it was about defeating sin (in all it's forms).

Richard I'm with you sin is evil, we have to hate what is evil. But nobody defeats sin by pretending not to have any.

Your context was that Paul was talking in present tense that he was still sinning which is what I was not in agreement with. I stated the context was he was referring to his killing of believers in stating he (present tense) is chief among sinners. That is not saying I am a sinner practicing sin which I also said I was addressing.

Now to address you disagreement with "No one born of the Spirit keeps sinning, this is God's Word found in (I believe) the book of 1 John, so you are not disagreeing with me. Now immediately following your statement of disagreement, you make an assumption that I'm using logic that every Christian will stop sinning completely. Well, what logic have I given you, mine or God's Word. Where is my opinion in using God's Word, did I elaborate after I typed that sentence or did you draw your own conclusion? Let me grab my quote and everything I said AFTER the quote:

"No one born of the Spirit keeps sinning." - Richard

Well, that's all I said. I don't see me interjecting anything of my own opinion that should give cause for you to say I used my logic, you made an assumption but I again, was only using God's Word.

I don't recall ever saying or implying we are without sin ever again this is an assumption you have made though I would ask you show me where you are drawing this assumption from and I'd be glad to address it. I don't however see where you are drawing this assumption so it would be hard for me to continue trying to defend myself when I don't know what I'm defending against.

It would seem to me this self righteous attitude I''ve been accused of having would come from whatever you show me that led to this assumption in the first place and would greatly do me good to see it that I may better understand why some of you feel that I am a self righteous person or appear to be.

Now I wll make a statement, none of us are perfect and I am very aware of my NEED for the perfect one that is to say Jesus Christ, however He died to free us from the power of sin and if He has done so then why would any Christian "practice" sin? So I submit again that no one claiming to be a Christian can practice sin nor can a person practicing sin (Steve Harvey) claim to be Christian. This is my position I hope it is clearer now. I think I am clearer this time.

After watching this video, the scripture verse, come out from among them, surfaced in my mind. Steve is a grown man and he has a decision to make. He knows what to do and he's not doing it. No pity party for Steve.

He needs to give his time to the Lord. He can afford to build a church, tracts and other witnessing tools.

He needs strength, because he is weak. With his fame he can draw many souls to Christ, after he gets knowledge of the word, because he is called to be preach the gospel.

I and all of you keep him in prayer.
